Warm Heart Zen does not have a resident teacher, but has been created by long term practitioners Sarah Kanowski and Nigel Pearn.
Sarah is a member of the San Francisco Zen Center, where she is a student of Ryushin Paul Haller. Sarah and Nigel began Zen training with the Sydney Zen Centre and have also practised with the Ordinary Mind School. Their practice is also guided by the compassionate mind training traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, as taught by Pema Chödrön.
Soto is one of the major schools of Zen, founded by Dōgen Zenji in the 13th century. The meditation practice is known as Shinkantaza, which is an open awareness meditation without object or anchors.
“Just to feel good we sit zazen, actually. Eventually that kind of purposeless practice will help you.” - Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, founder of San Francisco Zen Center.
